Find A House Church

Sonora, California - House Churches

If you are looking for a relationally-based, informal, friendly group of Christians to fellowship and grow in grace with, you’ve found it!  We are a small house church made up of a few families in the Sonora and Columbia area in Tuolumne County.  There are strong temptations to base our lives and church practices on what works, or what feels good or makes us happy.  However, we are committed to basing our church life and beliefs on the Word of God.  Having said that, we give a lot of latitude to each other on non-essential doctrines of the faith, realizing that we are all in different places in our journey.

We meet on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. in the various homes of our members.  We usually get started with the Lord’s Supper at 10:00 a.m.  Everyone brings food to share for this meal, and we highlight it by breaking the bread and taking the cup to remind us of Christ’s sacrificial death which saves us and unites us into one body, while at the same time serves as sort of a dress rehearsal for the wedding supper of the lamb in heaven.

We also spend time in praising singing, prayer, Bible study, and fellowship, although we are quite flexible and spontaneous in the format from week to week.  Our meetings are interactive and participatory.  The men are encouraged to lead the meeting; however, the women fully participate as well by sharing testimonies, praying, asking questions of the one teaching, sharing practical applications of the teaching to their own lives, etc.  The only thing that we don’t believe the women should do in our gatherings is to teach the Scriptures when men are present (1Tim.2:9-15) or speak authoritatively by judging prophecy or challenging a teaching (1Cor.14:33ff).

Our “vision” is to win the lost, disciple the new converts, and assimilate them into vibrant house churches, or plant new ones.  As the Lord enables us to plant new house churches we desire to meet together occasionally for mutual edification, encouragement and Bible teaching.
